The Reunion Invitation Package was mailed to all on February 13th, 1998.
Due to the poor response, the following letter has been mailed to the few who in fact have indicated that they would attend. Their deposit checks have been returned. Please pass the word along to others.
April 30, 1998
Dear Cousins,
We tried. It appears that our extended family is not over- whelmingly interested in a family reunion. At least not in the Los Angeles area. Reservations did not even hit the twenty-five people mark. That's people - not families. It is very disappointing to those of us who wanted to put one together, but the lack of attendees would make the expense (per person) far greater than we anticipated and those of us doing the organizing don't feel that all this formal planning is worth the effort for such a small group. More than that, the five of you flying in from out of town might be disappointed in the fact that you went to all the expense to get here, but didn't meet the dozens and dozens of relatives we have become accustomed to having at a reunion. We also wanted to give you enough time to cancel your plane reservations without penalty (hopefully).
Some of us in California plan to continue holding our annual mini-reunion dinner on Labor Day Weekend in San Luis Obispo and suggest you pencil in that date if you would like to attend. I will mail out a notice to all prior participants and to all California cousins during the summer. Out of staters who would like to be notified too, please let me know.
As I said, we tried, but unfortunately we must cancel the1998 Mayoff family reunion in Los Angeles. Your uncashed deposit check is being returned. Since this letter is being sent only to those who have mailed in reservations and to our e-mail list of on-line cousins, we invite you to tell others of this turn of events.
