These two Social Security applications were recently obtained from the Social Security Administration. The upper one, submitted by Samuel Mayoff (Abr) on November 27, 1936 indicates that he was born on May 10th, 1907 in Montreal to parents Bessie Wallerstein and Abraham Mayoff. Prior records had shown his DOB was May 22, 1906. It possibly appears that Sam, who lists a Canadian employer was just beginning his American life in Chicago. I would love to hear more on the subject. |

The lower application submitted by Hyman Mayoff (Ush) on December 1, 1936, indicated that he was born on June 15, 1901 in "Kistzikovitz" Russia to parents Toby (Toba) Molatzky and Oscar (Usher) Mayoff. This once again confirms out ancestral shtetl of Kostyukovichi (the "i" is silent). Our records indicate that this branch has died out. Hyman married Sophie and I know of only one child, Arthur. Can any of Usher's relatives provide additional information on Hyman? |
